Platform Jazz

“Platform Jazz”, a 7-piece Dixieland band, plays authentic 1920’s toe-tapping jazz. Included in their repertoire of well-known songs are Fats Waller favourites ‘I’m going sit right down and write myself a letter’, ‘Honeysuckle Rose’ and traditional tunes such as ‘Sweet Georgia Brown’, ‘Chicago’ and ‘When the saints go marching in’ and many more.

The line up consists of trumpet, clarinet, sax, trombone, double bass, drums and piano / keyboard. We also play jazz standards and some Latin numbers. “Platform Jazz” has been in existence for 16 years, and has played for many functions including weddings, parties, opening of Hotel Izulu in Ballito, functions and corporates at the ICC, concerts at the Playhouse, restaurant functions including BBB, Art Scene, NSA gallery, and the jazz center at UND, and several events at Suncoast and Wild Coast casino. The band plays regularly in Pietermaritzburg for Music Revival concerts and has performed at the Hilton College Theatre and for the Hilton Festival.

“Platform Jazz” has a great following on the Hibiscus Coast where they have played at the Harding fair, the Umdoni Retirement centre at Pennington and several times at the Village of Happiness in Margate. Their most recent performance there was a sell out and received a standing ovation.

Band members are Cathy Peacock on trumpet, Ian Holloway on clarinet, Duncan Wooldridge on trombone, Colin Mairs / Vicky Goddard on sax, Joe Delew / Melvin Peters / Calli Thomson on piano, Andreas Kappen on double bass and Grant Emmerich / Bruce Baker on drums.
